Japanese Specialist

Global Remote Contract Listed 31 Aug 2026

$25 – $40/hour

About this role

Overview

Japanese exposes AI quickly: it mishandles keigo, mixing polite, humble, and honorific speech in ways that would embarrass a real speaker, and it fumbles counters and particles. It can build grammatical sentences that still land at the wrong level of politeness, and a native reader is who feels the mismatch.

As a Japanese Expert, you'll judge and correct AI output in Japanese, teaching models to match the register a real reader expects.

What you’ll actually do

  • Review translations between English and Japanese for meaning, flow, and the right level of keigo.
  • Score and rank model output in Japanese, catching misused honorifics, wrong counters, and stiff particles.
  • Write the better version when the model misses, natural enough to read as native.

Roles this fits

Common backgrounds: Japanese Linguist, Bilingual Reviewer, Localization Specialist.

What we look for

  • Native or near-native fluency in Japanese.
  • Command of keigo and the registers of everyday speech.
  • Clear written English: your explanations are the training signal.
  • No degree required. We care about what you can do, not where you learned it.
